Powers of Congress

The Constitution gives all powers to make laws for the US government to __. Congress

What are expressed powers? Powers listed in Article 1, Section 8 of the Constitution.
What are some expressed powers? printing money, punishing counterfeiters, declaring war, collect taxes, raise and regulate an army/navy

Clause 18 gives Congress the ability to __. do whatever is necessary and proper to carry out the expressed powers

What is a writ of habeas corpus? A police officer has to bring a prisoner in to explain why they are holding them.
Bills of attainder are: Congress is banned from passing laws that punish a person without a jury trial.
Ex post facto laws: Laws that make an act a crime after it has been committed.
Checks and balances: Supreme court determines whether a law is constitutional, president can veto a bill before it becomes a law.
