Reconstruction Rebuilding the South after the Civil War
Why was Reconstruction necessary? The South was destroyed during the Civil War.
Jim Crow Laws Laws in the South that made separation of Whites and Blacks legal.
Black Codes Former slaves were not allowed to own land, vote, own a gun, or act as a juror in a trial becuase of these.
Segregation Separation of people by race.
13th Amendment Abolished (ended) slavery.
14th Amendment Gave former slaves citizenship.
15th Amendment Gave all men (no matter what race) the right to vote.
