Geography Words
| Term | Definition |

| Location | Where something is. Tells you where it is |
| Place | An area that is defined by everything in it. What is it like when you get there? |
| Region | An area that is defined by certain similar characteristics. Those unifying or similar characteristics can be physical, natural, human, or cultural. Climate, religion, language, education, States or territories, borders of a nation |
| Movement | Refers to the way people, products, information and ideas move from one place to another. People and ideas get around. |
| Human-Environment Interaction | Looks at the relationships between people and their environment; how people adapt to the environment and how they change it. What do the people do to the environment? What does the environment do for the people? |
| Compass Rose | A design on a map that shows direction. It points which way is north, south, east, west, and some intermediate directions on the map. |
| Latitude | Imaginary horizontal lines around the globe. Also called parallels. Measures distance North and South. |

| Legend | A small table accompanying the map that explains the symbols that are used on the map. |
| Cartographer | A map maker. |
