government terms
| Term | Definition |

| Autocratic | One person has power; citizens have little to no power |
| Democratic - Republic | Citizens, of voting age, have the power |
| Monarchy | Ruled by a king or queen. Example: Czar Nicholas II of Russia |
| Dictatorship | A person who rules a country with total authority and often in a cruel or brutal way Example: Hitler WWII Germany |
| Presidential | Type of democracy where citizens elect the legislature and the president in separate elections Example: USA, Russia, Mexico & Brazil |
| Parliamentary | Type of democracy where citizens elect members of the legislature; the legislature then elects the Prime Minister. Example: UK, Germany, Canada & Australia |
| Communism | Government that promotes a classless society based on common ownership of products/property Example: Cuba and WWII Soviet Union |
| Theocracy | Government in which God is seen as the true leader and religious leaders serve as political leaders Example: Iran |
| Prime Minister | Elected by Parliament and is head the government |
| President | Elected by the people and is head of government and head of state |
| Constitutional Monarchy | a country with a monarchy a that has limited power and no real authority |
