| sediments | pieces of weathered rock such as sand, deposited by wind, water, and ice |
| deposition | the settling of sediments |
| valley | a low area between mountains where a stream or glacier flows. |
| delta | a fan shaped deposit of earth materials at the mouth of a stream |
| beach | an area of sand and other sized rocks between the low and high tide levels at a coast or lake |
| prairie (plain) | a low, flat area of Earth's surface that is often formed by flat lying sediments. Mostly covered by grasses. |
| volcano | an opening in Earth's crust where lava, cinders, ash, and gases come to the surface |
| fault | a break in Earth's crust along which blocks of rock move past each other |
| plateau | a high, nearly level, uplifted area composed of horizontal layers of rock |
| mountain | a high, steeply sloped area where rock has been uplifted along a fault or created by a volcano |
| erosion | the moving of weathered pieces of rock and soil from one place to another by wind, water, ice, or human efforts |
| river | a large natural stream of water flowing in a channel to the ocean |
