| Term | Definition |

| democracy | Citizens have supreme power through the right to vote for their leaders and the legislature. Examples: Israel and Turkey. |
| Presidential Democracy | Citizens vote for president; the president is both the head of state and head of government. |
| Parliamentary Democracy | Citizens elect members to parliament and members of parliament select the prime minister; the prime minister is the head of government. Examples: Turkey and Israel |
| Autocratic Monarchy | Government in which one person has uncontrolled or unlimited authority over others; the government or power of an absolute monarch. |
| Israel and Turkey | Have a parliamentary democratic type of government |
| Saudi Arabia | Has an autocratic monarchy type of government |
| theocracy | A government controlled by religious leaders. |
| monarch | a king or queen who inherits the position. Example: Saudi Arabia |
| prime minister | the title of the head of government in most parliamentary democracies. |
| head of government | the top leader who manages day-to-day activities in a government |
| head of state | the top leader who represents a government at official and ceremonial functions, but may not manage day-to-day activities |
