| Vaquero | Hispanic ranch hand (Spanish cowboy) |
| Sodbuster | A plains farmer who plows up the ground to plant a crop |
| Homestead | Owning a piece of land by living on and farming it |
| Dry farming | Farming dry land by planting seeds deep eniugh in the soil to reach moisture. |
| Nomadic | Roaming about from place to place |
| Relocate | Move to a new place |
| Reservation | Goovernment land set aside for Native Americans |
| Decoy | Someone or something used to lead another into a trap |
| Surrender | to give up |
| Retaliation | to repay with injury |
