| religious group | Shares a belief system in a God or gods, with a specific set of rituals and literature |
| ethnic group | A group of people who share cultural ideas and beliefs that have been a part of their community for generations. |
| culture | The way a group of people live, includes the way they dress, where they live, what they eat, and their religion. |
| monotheistic | The doctrine or belief that there is only one God. |
| Judaism | Monotheistic religion that founded by Abraham; their holy writing is the Torah; their God is called Yahweh. |
| Islam | Monotheistic religion that was founded by Muhammad; their holy cities are Mecca and Medina; their holy text is the Qur'an; their God is called Allah. |
| Christianity | Monotheistic religion that grew out of Judaism and was founded by Jesus Christ; their holy text is the Bible; their holy city is Jerusalem. |
| Kurds | Live in several different countries in Southwest Asia, speak Kurdish, and have their own history, literature, music, and traditions. |
| Persians | Live in the modern country of Iran; are descended from Indo Europeans, and speak Farsi. |
| Arabs | Believe themselves to be descended from Abraham; they make up the majority of the population of Southwest Asia, and they speak Arabic. |
| Abraham | Founder of Judaism; connected in some way to all three major religions of Southwest Asia. |
| Muhammad | Founder of Islam; prophet of Allah. |
