TermDefinition
religious group Shares a belief system in a God or gods, with a specific set of rituals and literature
ethnic group A group of people who share cultural ideas and beliefs that have been a part of their community for generations.
culture The way a group of people live, includes the way they dress, where they live, what they eat, and their religion.
monotheistic The doctrine or belief that there is only one God.
Judaism Monotheistic religion that founded by Abraham; their holy writing is the Torah; their God is called Yahweh.
Islam Monotheistic religion that was founded by Muhammad; their holy cities are Mecca and Medina; their holy text is the Qur'an; their God is called Allah.
Christianity Monotheistic religion that grew out of Judaism and was founded by Jesus Christ; their holy text is the Bible; their holy city is Jerusalem.
Kurds Live in several different countries in Southwest Asia, speak Kurdish, and have their own history, literature, music, and traditions.
Persians Live in the modern country of Iran; are descended from Indo Europeans, and speak Farsi.
Arabs Believe themselves to be descended from Abraham; they make up the majority of the population of Southwest Asia, and they speak Arabic.
Abraham Founder of Judaism; connected in some way to all three major religions of Southwest Asia.
Muhammad Founder of Islam; prophet of Allah.
Jesus Christ Founder of Christianity; taught of a personal relationship with God; many followers of Christianity believe he is the son of God.
Mosque The place Muslims go to worship and pray.
Church The place Christians go to worship and pray.
Synagogue Jewish religious center and place of worship.
