What is culture? the way of life of a group of people
What are ideals? important beliefs such as freedom of speech and religion
What does "E Pluribus Unum" mean? "out of many, one"
What is an ethnic group? a group of people who share the same customs and language
What is a census? a count taken every 10 years of all the people in the U.S.
What are immigrants? people who leave their country to live in another country
What is the Pledge of Allegiance? a way of reminding ourselves that we share basic American ideals
What is a democracy? a system of government in which people have the power to make decisions about government
Who runs the government according to the U.S. Constitution? the people
What is free enterprise? an economy in which people have the right to start a business and own property
What is supply and demand? a system for pricing goods based on how much there is to sell and how badly people want it
Why is the Southern climate warmer than in the North? The South is closer to the equator.
What are some examples of natural resources? fossil fuels,water, minerals
What is an example of a renewable resource? trees
What is an example of a nonrenewable resource? fossil fuels
Why were natural parks created? to help preserve the land and environment and for the enjoyment of people
What rights do we have as citizens of the U.S.? freedom of speech, religion, assembly, press
What responsibilities do we have as citizens of the U.S.? obey laws, pay taxes, defend our country, serve on juries, vote
Which region of the U.S. gets more rain? the eastern half
