Life in New France

The system adapted to New France? The seigneurial system to the NA countryside.
Area that is settled? Along the St. Lawrence -Quebec, Trois-Rivieres, and Montreal
Three major rivers? St. Lawrence, Richelieu, and Chaudiere.
Typical farm? Consisted of 100 arpents=80 acres. Frequently suffered from crop exhaustion.
Crops grown? Corn, flax, oats, barley, and peas.
Three problems? Surplus produce was limited. Yields reduced in certain years due to early drought/frost. Starvation due to poor harvest.
