states rights | the power of each individual state instead of the government |
border state | the south states that were connected to the northern states |
blockade | to cut off from or isolate from |
offensive | to attack or be agressive |
rebel | to go against or do wrong |
yankee | the native northern states |
blockade runner | attempting to run from blockade ports |
ironclad | iron armor used in war |
casualty | an accident or wounded or dead soldier |
emancipate | to free or let go |
ratify | to approve or give consent |
habeas corpus | a law stating an arrested person has the right to go to court |
draft | a drawing or sketch. not final outcome |
bounty | an ward offered by the government |
greenback | a dollar bill |
inflation | the rise of prices from store products |
entrenched | to unlikely change |
total war | a war that has no obligations to what weapons can be used |
