The Great Depression

TermDefinition
Stock Market Crash A rapid, unanticipated drop in stock prices, resulting in the loss of money
Unemployment The state of not being employed
Hooverville A shanty town made by unemployed people during the Great Depression
Rugged Individualism The belief that nearly all people should be able to succeed on their own and that help from the government should be minimal
Laissez-faire A policy or attitude of letting things happen on their own own without interfering
The New Deal A group of government programs and policies established under FDR, designed to improve conditions for those suffering from the Great Depression
