| heirloom | a family possession handed down from generation to generation |
| plow | a farm tool that is usually pulled and that cuts and turns over the soil |
| remedy | a medicine used to relieve pain or to cure an illness; an action intended to correct a mistake |
| loom | a frame or machine used for weaving cloth |
| democracy | a government run by the people |
| quilt | a bed covering made of two layers of material with a filling of wool, cotton, or feathers |
| almanac | a book filled with facts and information about weather and many other subjects |
| election | choosing something or someone by voting |
| ferry | a place where boats carry people and goods across a river or narrow body of water; the boat used in ferrying |
| nun | a woman who devotes her life to religion and who lives under religious vows or promises she has made |
