BTEC Unit 3

Planning a safe session key terms

TermDefinition
What role would the leader carry out? Is responsible for the safety of the facility and the coaches (correct qualification and insurance) so will do a facility risk assessment
What role would the coach carry out? Is responsible for the safety of those taking part and the equipment and area being used a session plan with safety considerations.
First aid? There must be clear iinformation about where the first aid room and equipment is and how to contact a first aider incase of an emergency.
What considerations are there surrounding equipment? Not broken, correctly inflated, correct size for participants, PPE provided
What is meant by suitability of the site? The area being used has suffcient space to allow the activity to be safely undertaken.
What is meant by suitability of the participants? Are they all capable of performing the activities, are there any considerations required for the partcicipants regarding disability or fitness levels
What is meant by guidelines? Warm-up and cool down proticols, specifc PPE or rules taht are needed to ensure safety
Why is insurance necessary? In case there is a serious accident which could lead to compensation. The qualified coach would have insurance from the NGB, a teacher would ahve insurance via the workplace.
