The beginning of the Reformation

| heretic | someone who has different beliefs than those accepted by the church |
| indulgences | a document from the pope that said a person's sins were forgiven |
| nepotism | showing favoritism to family members by giving them a job or some other advantage |
| Ninety-Five Theses | Martin Luther's list of 95 critiques of the Roman Catholic Church |
| predestination | a belief that those who would go to heaven had been chosen before they were born |
| Protestant | a member or follower of any of the Western Christian churches that are separate from the Roman Catholic Church and follow the principles of the Reformation |
| reform | making changes to attempt to make something better |
| Reformation | a reform movement against the Roman Catholic Church to attempt to change some practices of the Catholic religion |
| recant | to take back, to publicly say that you no longer have an opinion or belief that you once had |
