TermDefinition
How many monarchy leaders are there? One.
What are the names of the monarchy leaders? Usually king, queen, emperor, emir, or sultan.
How do they get the power? (Monarch) They inherit it.
What are their traditions? Power over people is based on a tradition of allegiance.
Two types of monarchy. Constitutional and Absolute.
What is a theocracy? A government that is run by religious authorities.
How do they get the power? (Theocracy) Leader claims unlimited power in the name of God or other supernatural forces.
What is the authority based on? The religious beliefs of most citizens.
Examples of theocracy: Vatican City, Ancient Egypt, Iran
How many dictators are there? One or a small group.
How much power does a dictator have? Total power.
How do they get the power? (Dictator) Military forces.
How does a dictator affect the people? People live in constant fear, persecution, arrest, imprisonment, and murder.
Who/what does the dictator control? Military, Police, The Media, Education, Workers, Churches, and Buisnesses.
Who has the power? (Democracy) The people.
Who can take part in government? All citizens.
Who can have a voice and be elected? Citizens can vote and run for office.
Direct Democracy Decision making is carried out face to face. Only in small countries.
Representative Democracy The power of those in authority is limited.
Parliamentary Democracy The legislator selects the government.
