Key Terms and Othe Tid Bits

TermDefinition
West Point An United States Military Academy, where many several high ranking officers were educated. Robert E. Lee and Ulysses S. Grant were both educated there prior to the Civil War.
Robert Smalls A former Beaufort slave that successfully carried out a plan to steal a Confederate ship and hand it over to the Union Army.
Ulysses S. Grant Commander of the Union Army during the American Civil War, who led the Union to victory. He was often criticized for being overly aggressive and earned the nickname "The Butcher.
