Indulgences | in the Roman Catholic Church, pardon for sins committed during a person’s lifetime |
Heliocentric | based on the belief that the sun is the center of the universe |
Circumnavigate | to travel completely around the world |
Secularism | having to do with worldly, rather than religious, matters; nonreligious |
Oligarchy | government in which ruling power belongs to a few people |
Monarchy | government in which a king or queen exercises power |
Compromise | An acceptable middle ground between two opposing viewpoints |
