Vocabulary words for grade 7 Civil War Vocabulary

Jefferson Davis President of the South during the Civil War. Military background.
Robert E. Lee General of the Confederate Army. He was Lincoln first choice to led the union army.
Ulysses S. Grant General for the Union, known for his rumpled appearance. Like to drink and smoke. Nickname was "Unconditional Surrender"
Abraham Lincoln President of the Union during the Civil War.
Stonewall Jackson Excellent general for the Confederacy. He was at the First Battle of Bull Run
William Tecumseh Sherman Union General, believed in total war, led 100,000 troops from Atlanta to Savannah, destroying or taking anything useful in his path.
George B. McClellen Union General who replaced General McDowell. Known for being cautious.
Copperheads Northern democrats who opposed the war.
Contrabands Escaped slaves who fled to the North, crossig union lines.
54th Massachusetts Infantry The first all black (free men, freed slaves and contrabands) infantry that fought for the Union.
