VOCAB TERMS

TermDefinition
Circumnavigate To sail around the world--Spanish explorer Magellan was the 1st.
Colony A territory settled and controlled by a more powerful country.
Columbian Exchange The exchange of plants, animals, and diseases between different continents.
Martin Luther A German priest who started the Protestant Reformation in 1517.
Mercantilism An economic theory that stated a nation's power was based on its wealth.
Mission Religious communities built by the Spanish which contained a small town, surrounding farmland, and a church.
Pilgrimage A religious journey to a holy place.
Plantation A large estate which grows cash crops and is farmed by laborers who live there.
Protestant Reformation Started by Martin Luther King when he listed his complaints against the Catholic Church which led to the dividing of the Christian religion into Catholic and Protestant.
Pueblo A home or community of homes built by Native Americans.
Renaissance A period of the rebirth of knowledge and interest in learning in Europe between the 1300's and 1600's.
Strait A narrow strip of water connecting two larger bodies of water.
Technology The application of scientific discoveries for practical use.
Tribute Payment of one country which is forced to pay for protection.
