Populism 19th Century political movement demanding that people have a greater voice in government
Inflation An increase in prices or decline in purchasing power caused by an increase in the supply of money.
Assimilation A minority groups adoption of the beliefs and way of life of the dominant culture.
Homestead Act 1862 law that provided 160 acres of land in the West to any citizen or the head of the household who intends to become a citizen; would cultivate the land for 5 years.
Bimetallism The use of both gold and silver as a basis for a national monetary system.
Dime Novels Cheaply bound adventure stories that sold for a dime.
Frontier Thesis Thesis that American democracy was formed by the American frontier with an emphasis on the process of moving to the West.
Free Silver Idea of unlimited silver because Congress omitted the silver dollar from the authorized coins list.
Gold Standard Limited the money supply as gold reserves were limited.
Dawes Act 1887 act that allowed the President to survey American Indian land and divide it.
Reform Make changes in order to improve something.
