Plight: an unfortunate situation
Manor: a large country house with lands
Cottar: a farmer or laborer who does not own land
Steward: an official appointed to supervise arrangements
Impoverished: to make a person or area lack sufficiency
Pestilence: a fatal epidemic disease (Black Plague)
Apprentice: a person who is learning from a person more skilled in an art form or job for little to no pay
