Aztec vocabulary

vocab KarolinaArroyo

margin edge of something such as an area of land.
reugn period during which someone is king or queen.
theft crime or stealing.
monarch king or queen.
unique unusually good and special.
classic considered important and of high quality with a value that lasts for a long time.
arid The landscape of northern Mexico is generally arid or lacking in rainfall.
basin A geographic basin is a bowl-shaped area often with a lake at the bottom of it.
mercenary They often served as mercenaries or soldiers-for-hire in local conflicts.
chinampa The Aztec created floating gardens called chinampa in the lake itself.
nezahualocyotl The ruler of one of these city-states was a worrior-poet named Nezahualcoyotl.
moctezuma In 1502 a new emperor came to the throne his name was Moctezuma.
agrarian Like the Inca sand the Mayas the Aztecs were mainly an agrarian people.
tribute They waged war on other states to win tribute or goods paid as taxes by conquered people.
prime minister A prime minister is the chief official appointed by the ruler of a country.
causeway A causeway is a raised road across a body of water.
shrine A shrine is a place or worship that is dedicated to a sacred object or person.

orator The Aztecs were skilled orator or public speakers.
