| Neutral | a colonist who did not take a side in the American Revolution |
| Patriot | a colonist who was against British rule in the American colonies |
| petition | signed request made to the government |
| proclamation | public and official announcement from the leader to the citizens |
| treaty | an agreement between countries |
| turning point | a single event that causes an important change |
