Middle East

What is irrigation? Irrigation is where pipes lead into a field/area and they control the amount of water released.
What is fossil water? Water that has been contained in some undisturbed space.
What is the process of desalination? Process that removes minerals from saline water.
What is water pollution? Waste and objects that are placed or that end up in body's of water.
What is OPEC? Organization of the petroleum exporting countries.
What is liquid gold? Liquid gold is what water is called in the M.E.
Why is water called liquid gold? Water is very precious in places such as the M.E. due to the farming and agriculture in these areas.
What is the Gaza Strip? Boundary line in Israel.
Why is the Suez Canal important? It allows people to get to the Mediterranean Sea.
Why is the Red Sea important to the M.E.? It allows easy access to ship oil through the Suez Canal.
Why is the Persian Gulf important? It's one of the main ways oil is shipped from Kuwait, Saudi Arabia, Iran, and other countries.
What is Iraq like? Iraq is small and has large rivers running through it.
What is Israel like? Israel is extremely small and is right beside the Mediterranean Sea.
Where is the Persian Gulf located? The Persian Gulf is located between Iran, which is to the northeast, and the Arabian Peninsula, which is to the southeast.
Why is the Arabian Sea important? The Arabian Sea is an important historical trade route.
Why is the Jordan River important? It is one of the main sources of water for Israel, Jordan, parts of Syria, West Bank, and Gaza Strip.
What could oil be used to produce? Oil is part of the production of- fuel, medicines, plastics, fertilizers and pesticides, and cleansers.
