What is the kingdom of Kush called today? Sudan
Why was Kush a powerful kingdom Kush was important to the African kingdoms because they were known as the iron center of Africa
Who did the Kush people trade with? They traded with the Egyptians
Why were trees so important to the Kush people? Trees were needed to fuel the fire to make iron, however the Kush did not plant as often as they should have causing the tree supply to decline (make smaller). As a result they did not have iron to trade with other kingdoms.
How were the Kush people like the Egyptians? They practiced mummy making, used hieroglyphics, and they dressed like Egyptians.
What was the first most powerful African kingdom Ghana
What made the kingdom of Ghana so powerful? The kingdom of Ghana controlled the area between the gold and salt mines. Ghanaian king ordered his soldiers to control the trade route for a fee. Charging the traders for a safe passage is what made Ghana so powerful.
What was the second most powerful kingdom? Mali
Who was a great leader of Mali? Mansa Musa
What did Mansa Musa accomplish? He made Timbuktu a great city of learning and trade. he also built libraries, schools and places of worship.
What did Songhai trade? Fish for other goods.
Why did Songhai decline? The Moors invaded with guns and canoes. The Songhai people only had less advanced weapons.
Why was salt so important to the African Kingdoms? Salt was important because it is a necessary nutrient. In the Sahara climate needed t replace the salt they lost through perspiration. People in the African Kingdoms traded salt for gold.
