History Defintions

TermDefinition
Saga A tale of figures and events of Norway and Iceland from history or legend.
Cartographer A person who creates maps, whether they're of the world, the local bus routes, or buried pirate treasure.
Monarch A King, a Queen, or an Emperor.
Navigation The science of determining a ship's location or direction of travel.
Scurvy A disease caused by a lack of vitamin C and characterized by spongy gums, loosening of the teeth, and a bleeding.
Renaissance The period of European history at the close of the Middle Ages and the rise of the modern world; a cultural rebirth from the 14th through the middle of the 17th centuries.
Merchant A person who makes a living from buying and selling goods.
Enslave To be forced to work for no pay and without the freedom to leave.
Missionary A person who tries to persuade people to accept new religious beliefs.
Ally A person, group, or nation that unites with another in order to do something.
