| Term | Definition |

| Saga | A tale of figures and events of Norway and Iceland from history or legend. |
| Cartographer | A person who creates maps, whether they're of the world, the local bus routes, or buried pirate treasure. |
| Monarch | A King, a Queen, or an Emperor. |
| Navigation | The science of determining a ship's location or direction of travel. |
| Scurvy | A disease caused by a lack of vitamin C and characterized by spongy gums, loosening of the teeth, and a bleeding. |
| Renaissance | The period of European history at the close of the Middle Ages and the rise of the modern world; a cultural rebirth from the 14th through the middle of the 17th centuries. |
| Merchant | A person who makes a living from buying and selling goods. |
| Enslave | To be forced to work for no pay and without the freedom to leave. |
| Missionary | A person who tries to persuade people to accept new religious beliefs. |
| Ally | A person, group, or nation that unites with another in order to do something. |
