anti-Semitism discrimination against those who practice the Jewish faith
war on drugs the economy of some countries is tied to the production of the cocoa crop which can be used to make cocaine. the government is battling organizations over the crop. It is the only way some farmers can survive. but it leads to drug trafficking and death.
religion interpreting and using scripture to support the use of force.
militarism the build up of weapons in order to defend beliefs
political power when there is no clear leadership in a country for whatever reason, insiders and outsiders may enter into conflict trying to seize power.
poverty poor economies are so devastating in some countries that people feel unable to do anything else but fight.
Cold war politics the cold war was an economic and political conflict between the United States and Soviet Union from after World War II until the early 1990s. There were never any battlefields, but each superpower used other countries to gain power.
Cold War politics (continued) When it was over, many countries were left poor without leadership. This poverty and lack of leadership causes people to act to try to remedy the situation.
fundamentalism taking religion to its most extreme form by using it to justify violence.
oil some countries are trying to get oil. Some are trying to protect the countries that have it, form outsiders.
racism this is discrimination against other races, or the belief that one race is superior to another.
