what are the functions of the respiratory system? to bring oxygen into the body and then to take carbon dioxide out
what is oxygen debt? when the body is working hard meaning there is a requirement for more oxygen than they can get. resulting in an athletes panting/ breathing heavily in order to repay oxygen debt.
what is the respiratory system? 1) intercostal muscles contract and lift the chest upwards and outwards. 2) the diaphragm opens and lowers 3) nose and mouth 4) trachea 5) bronchi/ bronchioles 6) alveoli causing gaseous exchange
tidal volume the amount of air inspired and expired with each normal breath at rest or during exercise.
vital capacity the greatest amount of air that can be made to pass in and out of the lungs, normally this is between 4 and 5 litres.
what are the immediate and short term effects of exercise? oxygen debt and breathing quickens and deepens
