Vocabulary Words from World Holidays text

celebration A party or event to honor something or someone important.
holiday A day of festivity when no work is done.
tradition A custom or belief that is passed down from generation to generation. It is the specific way that someone celebrates.
decorations To make an area look festive for a party or celebration.
dreidel A spinning top with Jewish letters that is used for a game usually played during Hanukkah.
Holi A Hindu celebration that honors the end of winter and the arrival of spring.
kinara A candle holder used during Kwanzaa. It holds seven candles.
Kwanzaa A celebration that allows African Americans to honor their African heritage.
menorah A candle holder used during Hanukkah. It holds nine candles.
mkeka An African mat that holds the symbols of Kwanzaa.
Ramadan A Muslim holiday that usually involves fasting and prayer to feel closer to God.
fasting When a person chooses to go without food for a long period of time.
Chinese New Year A celebration to honor the New Year in China.
Hanukkah A Jewish holiday that is a time to remember the struggles Jews once had and the miracle that took place.
