Electrical Systems

TermDefinition
DC (Direct Current) Flows in one direction, from positive to negative poles of a power source; used typically in low-voltage applications
Alternating Current [AC] Reverses direction of its flow at regular intervals: typical for most electrical applications
Voltage Measure of electromotive force between two wires on a circuit
Wattage Power of an electrical load
Current or Amperage The number of electrons flowing through a given point on a conductor
Resistance Measure of a conductor's ability to conduct electricity
Transformer A device used to increase or decrease AC voltage
Step-Up Transformer Increase the output voltage
Step-Down Transformer Decrease the output voltage
