Who is Pisistratus? a tyrant who brought peace and prosperity.
Who is Cleisthenes? the father of democracy.
Who is Pericles? encouraged people to take pride in there city was a democrat. Macedonia took over.
Who was Socrates, Plato, Aristole? They used logic and reasoning, rather tham the work of the gods to explain events.
Monarchy? Rule by one/king
Oligarchy? rule by few
Democracy? rule of the people
Tyranny? rule by force
Representative Democracy? citizens elect officials to represent them .
Direct Democracy? rule by all
What did athens look like? rocky, mountains, lands surrounded by water, Travel was hard, and hot climate.
Why did athens have a strong navy and why did sparta have a strong army? Athens was a surrounded by mainly water. Sparta was near land mostly.
Persian wars ? The greeks were far more clever.
Battle of Salamis? Athens rammed their small ships into Persia large ships
Battle of Marathon? Greeks won because of there clever minds and a messenger ran 26 miles to give them great news but fell and died.
Battle of Plataea? end of war
Battle of Thermopylae? Sparta helped athens but sadly they lost AND Persia BURNED ATHENS TO THE GROUND.
What is the Delian League? ATHENS WAS THE STRONGEST MEMBER AND EVERY CITY-STATE IN THE DELIAN LEAGUE PLANNED TO PROTECT TRADE ON THE AEGEAN SEA
What is the peloponnesian league? SPARTA WAS THE STRONGEST THE LEAGUE WAS AFRAID OF THE GROWTH OF ATHENS AND DECLARED WAR!
Sparta women? Had more rights then athens could have land
