| Language families | Groups of related languages. |
| Megacities | Large cities with more than 10 million people. |
| Mestizos | A person who has mixed European and Native American ancestry. |
| Predominant | Main, most common, superior to others. |
| Roots | Cultural origins |
| Slums | Areas in a city that are crowded, with poor housing and bad living conditions. |
| Topography | Physical features of land. |
| Tradition | The handing down of information, beliefs, or customs from one generation to another. |
