Vocab for Social Studies

TermDefinition
Constitution A system of principles defining how a country or organization operates
Candidate A person running for elective offices
Suffrage The right to vote
Citizen Natives of a region or country who owe loyalty to it and have specific rights
Equal Rights Rights to personal liberty established by the 13th and 14th Amendments to the U.S. Constitution and certain Congressional acts, especially as applied to and individual or minority group.
Amendment Something that is formally added to, or taken away from an existing document such as the U.S. Constiturion
Civic Participation Promoting the quality of life in a community, through both political and non-political processes
Democracy A form of government in which the people, or their elected representatives, have power
