| Ghetto | An area where Jews were confined by the Nazis during WWII; surrounded by barbed wire, brick walls and armed soldiers. |
| Diaspora | The movement, migration or scattering of people away from an established or ancestral homeland. |
| Al Qaeda | a global broad-based militant Islamist organization founded by Osama bin Laden; responsible for the attacks on the United States September 11, 2001 |
| Saddam Hussein | leader of Iraq from 1979 until his execution in 2006; wanted control of Kuwait’s oil fields and access to the Persian Gulf |
| Osama bin Laden | the leader of the terrorist group Al Qaeda that was sheltered in Afghanistan during the War on Terror |
| Terrorism | the use of violence against a group of people or government in hopes of achieving a political goal. |
