Geography and history of South America

Adapt To adjust or modify to fit.
Descendant Descended from an ancestor.
Grasslands Wide open areas used for grazing and crops.
Lowlands A low-lying area.
Hunter-gatherer A person who hunts animals and gathers plants and fruits for food.
Kinship Blood or family relationship.
Liberate To set someone or something free.
Monopoly The complete control of the market for a service or product.
Nomad A person who moves from place to place
Pampas The grassy plain in Argentina.
Rebellion A revolt or resistance to authority
Slash-and-burn A farming method of clearing land by cutting down and burning forest and vegetation.
Subsistence farming Farming to grow only enough food for families to eat, not to sell.
Terraced Flat fields cut into slopes or mountainsides.
Treaty An agreement between two or more countries.
Tributaries Small rivers that drain into a larger river.
