Freedman's Bureau Provided food, clothing, education, and medical care
Black codes Laws intended to restrict the freedom and opportunities of African - Americans
Radical Republicans A Republican that wants the emancipation of slaves and equal rights of slaves
13th Amendment The amendment that abolished slavery
14th Amendment To further protect the rights of freedom
15th Amendment The right for all men, regardless of race, to vote
Ku Klux Klan A terror group that's against black people
Jim Crow Laws Any of the laws legalizing racial segregation of blacks and whites that were enacted in southern states beginning in the 1880s and enforced through the 1950s
Plessy vs. Ferguson A case that established the "separate but equal" doctrine
Sharecropping/tenant farming Form of farming in which the land owner provided a tenant with the land and the money needed to purchase supplies
Grandfather Clause Exempted citizens whose ancestors had voted before January 1, 1867
Segregation The forced seperation of races in public places
