Writing Strategies

TermDefinition
Steps or stages of the writing process pre-writing, drafting, revising editing proofreading
Prewriting clustering or webbing, outlining, note taking, brainstorming
Drafting Writing sentences, and paragraphs. Correctness or editing not important this stage. The purpose of drafting is simply to get all of the pre-writing ideas into print.
Revising Writers begin refining the wording of the draft and/or rearranging the ideas or paragraphs. This is the time to make the writing more logical and forceful. Ensure that ideas flow logically and are presented clearly.
Editing Diction and syntax are cleaned up. Spelling is corrected. Improve the flow of ideas and precision of presentation.
