What is Western Front? Battles ground between Allies and Central Powers in Europe during WW I
What is influenza? the flu virus
What is 1918? World War I; started in 1914 and ended in this year
What is 1917? The U.S. entered the war 3 years after it began, the year they entered was this.
What is the assassination of Archduke Francis Ferdinand? This triggered or sparked the start of World War I
What is red scare? Widespread fear that radicals and communists were plotting a revolution in the U.S.
What is the Zimmerman Note? Telegram sent from Germany to Mexico and intercepted by Great Britain, proposing an alliance against the U.S. this leads to the U.S. declaring war on Germany.
What is the British Navy? The German army was dominate on land and this was dominate on sea.
What is a conscientious objector? This group refused to fight in the war because of religious or moral beliefs.
What is Fourteen Points? Wilson's plan for peace.
What is reparations? Payments for war damages
What is U-boat? German submarine
What is unrestricted submarine warfare? Germany attacked Allied ships without warning
What is the selective service act? The U.S. increased the number of soldiers in the military by creating this.
What is the Treaty of Versailles? This document ended WW I.
What is the Lusitania? British passenger ship sunk by the Germans which lead American's to favor getting involved in WW I
What is a casualty? Killed, wounded, or missing soldier
What is convoys? These were used to protect Allied ships from Germany sub attacks
What is a Great Migration? Numerous black came to the North to seek wartime jobs and escape the racism in the South
What is Germany? This country was blamed for WW I and was made to pay reparations which crippled their economy and later led to WW II
What is the Committee on Public Information? Government agency that encouraged American's to support the war, sending pamphlets and speakers and run by George Creel
What is the War Industries Board? Regulated businesses related to the war effort
What is Belgium? The invasion of this country by Germany led to Americans to turn against Germany because this country is neutral
What is the right vote? Numerous opportunities were created during WW I, these included more jobs for both women and African Americans along with women gaining this
What is the League of Nations? This group proposed by Woodrow Wilson and was the only of his 14 points accepted by the peace conference, ironically the U.S. never joined.
Committee on Public Information (CPI) government agency created during WW I to encourage Americans to support war
Reparations Payment for war damages
