Geography

Chapter 9 Ohio in the United States

TermDefinition
relative location the location of a place relative to other places
physical characteristics natural parts of the land, like rivers, lakes or mountains
human characteristics things that people have added to a place, like a city, road, school or state border.
cardinal directions the four main points of the compass-north, south, east and west
intermediate directions points of the compass that fall between cardinal directions
compass rose a map tool that allows you to determine cardinal and intermediate directions.
map scale shows the relationship between a unit of length on a map and corresponding length on the earth's surface.
