| weather | the condition of the bottom layer of the atmosphere in one place over a SHORT period of time |
| climate | the weather patterns that an area typically experience over a long period of time |
| geography | the study of the Earth's surface, the connections between places, and the relationships between people and their environment |
| plain | a flat region |
| peninsula | a piece of land almost surrounded by water or projecting out into a body of water |
| channel | a relatively narrow body of water that connects two larger bodies of water |
| rural | characteristic of the countryside rather than the town |
| urban | characteristic of a city or town |
| ethnic group | people of the same race or nationality who share a distinctive culture |
| religion | organized system of beliefs, ceremonies, and rules used to worship a god or group of gods |
