empire a group of nations or peoples ruled over by an emperor, empress, or other powerful sovereign or government
irrigation the artificial application of water to land to assist in the production of crops
monotheism the doctrine or belief that there is only one God.
polytheism the doctrine of or belief in more than one god or in many gods.
temple an edifice or place dedicated to the service or worship of a deity or deities. (god or gods)
monument something erected in memory of a person, event, etc., as a building, pillar, or statue:
Flood a great flowing or overflowing of water, especially over land not usually submerged.
theocracy a form of government in which God or a deity is recognized as the supreme civil ruler
bureaucracy the body of officials and administrators, especially of a government or government department.
quality an essential or distinctive characteristic, property, or attribute
delta a nearly flat plain of alluvial deposit between diverging branches of the mouth of a river, often, though not necessarily, triangular:
pyramids (in ancient Egypt) a quadrilateral masonry mass having smooth, steeply sloping sides meeting at an apex, used as a tomb.
mastabas an ancient Egyptian tomb made of mud brick, rectangular in plan with sloping sides and a flat roof.
corvée labor an obligation imposed on inhabitants of a district to perform services, as repair of roads, bridges, etc., for little or no remuneration.
mummification to make (a dead body) into a mummy, as by embalming and drying.
persuade cause (someone) to do something through reasoning or argument.
excerpts a short singled-out part of writing that is taken from a whole body of written work
contribute give (something, especially money) in order to help achieve or provide something.
promote further the progress of (something, especially a cause, venture, or aim); support or actively encourage
discriminate recognize something special about something or make an unjust treatment based upon difference
smuggle move (goods) illegally into or out of a country.
social structure the social organization of a society
immortality the quality or state of an unending existence
tribute an act, statement, or gift that is intended to show gratitude, respect, or admiration.
siege a military operation in which enemy forces surround a town or building, cutting off essential supplies, with the aim of compelling the surrender of those inside.
expansion the action of becoming larger or more extensive.
noble belonging to a hereditary class with high social or political status; aristocratic.
