aesthetic talk A form of conversation revolving around narrative literature in which children interpret and discuss what has been heard or read in relations to themselves.
efferent talk A formal mode of conversation about expository text used to inform and persuade.
expressive language Putting words together to form thoughts or express oneself.
neural shearing Loss of brain cells.
phonemes Sounds made by individual letters and combinations of letters that made a single sound.
receptive language Ability to process
semantics Meaning that language communicates.
synaptogenesis Connecting of brain cells or rapid development of neural connections.
syntax The structure of language or rules that governs how words work together in phrases
t-unit An independent clause with all its dependent clauses attached that is helpful in measuring a child's language complexity.
zone of proximal development Based on Vygotsky's theory
