Information about the declaration of Independence.

QuestionAnswer
What is the Declaration of Independence? and when was it made? July 4th, 1776. It is a documemnts where America explains to the world why the colonist felt justified (or needed) to break away from Great Britain.
Where did the writers of the Declaration of Independence get their ideas from? From the era called Enlightenment. The thinkers of this time created new ideas that attempted to use reason and scientific thinking to understand the world.
Who were some Enlightenment thinkers and their ideas? John Locke= SOCIAL CONTRACT is the belief the when you live with others or form a government you give up some of your rights
In The Declaration of Independence, what does it say the purpose of government is? 1= To protect citizen's life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness. 2= It also says "all men are created equal" 3= if the government doesn't do what is stated above. the people have the right to change or abolish the government.
What groups (name individuals) felt they were excluded from the Declaration of Independence and how? African American= Frederick Douglas wanted right to vote and end of slavery. Women= Elizabeth Cady Stanton wanted right to vote. remember Seneca Falls Convention. Native Americans
What were some different perspectives about Native Americans and the Declaration Of Independence? Different perspectives Jefferson felt Native Americans were to be treated equally as long as they followed US Constitution. Andrew Jackson believed in the "common Man". Native American wouldn't give up there ways then they had no rights. He created the "Indian Removal Act"
