The purpose of the Bill of rights and the major ones to know

What are the Bill of Rights? They are the 1st 10 Amendments added to the US Constitution by the Federalist and Anti-Federalist as protection for individual rights.
What does the 1st Amendment cover? Provides freedom of speech (politics), Freedom of religion and Petition, Freedom of Assembly (to protest on street or hold meetings in our house to plan events) and Freedom of the Press (ability to complain about the Government in any printed manner)
What does the 5th Amendment gives us? It gives you DUE PROCESS. No self-incrimination. You don't testify against yourself. It provides your "Miranda rights." "You have a right to remain silent...." And no double Jeopardy/can't be tried for the same crime 2x's.
What is Due Process? It is the right to a trial by jury, a speedy trial, a fair trial, a lawyer
What is the 6th Amendment? Guarantees a speedy trial, a jury that doesn’t already think you are guilty, accused people can confront witnesses against them, and that the accused must be allowed to have a lawyer.
What is the 8th Amendment? This amendment simply states that bail, fines, and punishments must not be unreasonable.
What is the 9th Amendment? Says that other rights not listed in the US Constitution belong to the people, and just because they are not listed doesn't mean the people can be violated.
