| What invention caused the increase of slavery and how did it do this? | The cotton gin. It's a machine that takes out the seeds from cotton. More farmers started to grow cotton instead of other cash crops like tobacco. Southerns needed more laborers to grow the cotton so bought slaves. South became known as the COTTON KING. |

How were state rights a problem for the Civil War? | State rights is idea that since states created the Federal Gov't, if state did not like rules made by the Federal government, then the state could refuse to follow Federal rules or leave the Union. Southern states didn't like the rules against slavery. |

How did Territorial Expansion cause the Civil War? | Territorial Expansion is the land the USA gained from wars-Mexican American War or purchasing- Louisiana Purchase. The North and and South began to fight over which territories or state would become slave or free states. |
| How are the economies of the Northern states different from the Southern States. | Because of the geographic features, the northern states developed shipping, fishing, small farms and manufacturing industries. The South was agricultural. Most southern's didn't own slavery but the economy was based on profits made from slave labor. |
