Containment | Containment was a United States policy using numerous strategies to prevent the spread of communism abroad. |
Truman Doctrine | the principle that the US should give support to countries or peoples threatened by Soviet forces or communist insurrection |
Marshall Plan | A program by which the United States gave large amounts of economic aid to European countries to help them rebuild after the devastation of World War II. |
Cold War | a state of political hostility between countries characterized by threats, propaganda, and other measures short of open warfare, in particular. |
NATO | is a military alliance of European and North American democracies founded after World War II to strengthen international ties between member states |
Warsaw Pact | A military alliance of communist nations in eastern Europe. |
Brinkmanship | the art or practice of pursuing a dangerous policy to the limits of safety before stopping, typically in politics. |
U-2 Incident | during the presidency of Dwight D. Eisenhower and the premiership of Nikita Khrushchev, when a United States U-2 spy plane was shot down while in Soviet airspace. |
