| What is a Constitution? | It is a document that creates the basic rules of government that everyone ( citizens) agree to follow. |
| What did the delegates agree the new US Government should have? | The National Government needed to be strong. Needed three branches: Executive, (President), Judicial ( National Courts), and Legislative (US Congress). |
| The Constitutional Convention disagreed on how many parts the Legislative (lawmaking) branch should work. What is the Compromise called they agreed on? | The Great Compromise |
| The Great Compromise combined the New Jersey plan and the Virginia Plan. What was the New Jersey Plan? | New Jersey Plan (favored small states). It created one house in Congress, Each state sends the same number to representatives to Congress. There would be an Executive and Judicial Branch |
| What was the Virginia Plan? | Virginia Plan (favored large states). It created bi-cameral house in Congress (2 houses), each state sends representative to US Congress based on the amount of people in the population. There would be an Executive and Judicial Branch. |
| So how did the GREAT COMPROMISE work? | National gov't would have 3 branches. Legislative branch(US Congress) would have 2 houses. The upper house called SENATE-each states sent 2 reps from each state. Lower house HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES) state sends reps to Congress based on state population |
