Civil War Weapons

Cannons A large, heavy piece of artillery, typically mounted on wheels, formerly used in warfare.
Muskets An infantryman's light gun with a long barrel, typically smooth-bored, muzzleloading, and fired from the shoulder
Ironclad Covered or protected with iron.
Bayonet A sword-like stabbing blade that may be fixed to the muzzle of a rifle for use in hand-to-hand fighting.
Breech Loader A gun designed to have ammunition inserted at the breech rather than through the muzzle.
Knife An instrument composed of a blade fixed into a handle, used for cutting or as a weapon.
Sword A weapon with a long metal blade and a hilt with a hand guard, used for thrusting or striking and now typically worn as part of ceremonial dress.
Gun Barrel A gun barrel is the tube, usually metal, through which a deflagration or rapid expansion of gases are released in order to propel a projectile out of the end at a high velocity.
Gun Powder an explosive consisting of a powdered mixture of saltpeter, sulfur, and charcoal.
Machine Gun An automatic gun that fires bullets in rapid succession for as long as the trigger is pressed.
Grenade A small bomb thrown by hand or launched mechanically.
Artillery Large-caliber guns used in warfare on land.
Warship A ship equipped with weapons and designed to take part in warfare at sea.
Ship A small vessel propelled on water by oars, sails, or an engine.
Bowie Knife A long knife with a blade double-edged at the point.
Cutlass A short sword with a slightly curved blade, formerly used by sailors.
Revolver A pistol with revolving chambers enabling several shots to be fired without reloading.
Rifle A gun, especially one fired from shoulder level, having a long spirally grooved barrel intended to make a bullet spin and thereby have greater accuracy over a long distance.
Caliber The internal diameter or bore of a gun barrel.
Cannon Ball A round metal or stone projectile fired from a cannon in former times.
