| Domino Theory | President Eisenhower's idea that if Vietnam fell to communism, the other countries of Southeast Asia would fall to Communists. |
| Vietcong | The military forces of the National Liberation Front, a group that wanted to overthrow the government in South Vietnam. |
| Tonkin Gulf Resolution | (1964) Congressional Resolution that in effect authorized military action in Southeast Asia. Allowed Pres. Johnson to escalate America's involvement in Vietnam. |
| Operation Rolling Thunder | a U.S. bombing campaign in North Vietnam in March, 1965 |
| Tet Offensive | A series of major attacks by communist forces in South Vietnam in 1968. Caused many people in America to believe the war was unwinnable and led LBJ's decision to not seek another term as president. |
| Vietnamization | A plan to end the Vietnam war that involved turning over the fighting to the South Vietnamese while U.S. troops gradually pulled out. |
| 26th Amendment | (1971) Lowered the legal voting age from 21 to 18. |
| War Powers Act | (1973) Law that sets a 60-day limit on the presidential commitment of U.S. troops to foreign conflicts. |
